Solar Thermal Technologies — ME 5312

Description
This course introduces current technology and emerging trends
in the application of solar energy systems including distributed
solar systems for buildings and concentrating solar systems
for power and fuel production. It focuses on engineering
analysis and design. Topics include:
- Solar radiation properties, resource assessment and analysis
- Thermal analysis of solar collectors and systems for buildings
- Concentrating collectors for power production
- Introduction to solar chemistry to produce fuels
- Energy storage
- Introduction to photovoltaic systems and their application
- System analysis and computational tools to predict annual
energy savings and economic analysis
- Design methods with application in a team project
